CIO Agenda in 2023, Orchestrating Change for Impact
It is an exciting, and important time to be a technology leader, as 2023 is shaping up to be a year of possibilities for CIOs. The role of the CIO is continually expanding and evolving, having more influence on the creation and orchestration of strategy, helping organisations rethink the way they do business.
We have all seen sustainability move up the corporate agenda, as consumers, employees, regulators, shareholders, and industry stakeholders expect more action, and more responsibility from organisations. The CIO is in the ideal position to advance sustainability by driving digital transformation, improving efficiencies, and reducing carbon and e-waste. Sustainability is within the remit of the CIO of today, and of the CIO of the future.
It goes without saying that innovation is also a crucial priority for businesses in every industry. There is a clear need to differentiate and grow ahead of the competition, and to deliver on customers’ changing needs. This responsibility is being handed to CIOs more than ever before. However, as cyber-attacks continue to increase in sophistication and frequency, never has it been more important to balance the momentum that comes with innovation, with risk awareness and resilience.
Despite the ongoing economic challenges faced by organisations post-pandemic, the motive to innovate as the key long-term driver of value continues to drive much information technology transformation activity. What has changed is the shortening of time-to-value expectations, which adds challenges to transformation agendas and puts a stronger focus on ROI for investment in technology projects than ever before.
A tough market demands innovation, along with growth and efficiency. Having spent decades delivering just this within the IT organisation, it’s time for the CIO to step out on a broader stage and show the business how to shape the possible. Orchestrating transformation on the journey towards a digital-first future means CIOs are forging a new path.
1,000 global technology leaders took part in Logicalis' most recent CIO survey. The Logicalis Global CIO Report explores four critical areas of focus for CIOs, identified in the research study:
- Bold by design - 77% of CIOs said they’re spending more time selling ideas into the board.
- Delivering innovation with impact - 79% of CIOs expect to increase spending on customer experience in 2023.
- Safe and sound - 77% of CIOs expect to increase spending on outsourced IT and managed services in the year ahead.
- A sustainable future - 48% of CIOs said progress in sustainability is hindered by a lack of in-house skills.
