Quadrent at the 2023 New Zealand CIO Awards
Quadrent were thrilled to have been judged a finalist in the Sustainability through Technology category at the 2023 New Zealand CIO Awards, for our Quadrent Green Lease circular leasing solution.
Congratulations to Christchurch City Council on winning the award last night (15th August 2023), for their Smart Christchurch programme that focuses on improving environmental outcomes in the council area.
Gary Nalder, Quadrent’s New Zealand General Manager commented on Quadrent's involvement at the awards, “I am hugely proud of our shortlisting. I’d like to acknowledge the Quadrent team’s passion for rolling up their sleeves and doing everything they can to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable rangitahi and to protect our precious environment for future generations.
“I am grateful for the support and collaboration of our Quadrent Green Lease customers, as we seek to create the enormous scale needed to solve these very challenging problems.”
The Quadrent Green Lease was designed to solve two significant environmental and social problems in New Zealand.
- 1 in 7 young New Zealanders (120,000) do not have access to a learning device at home.
- Only 4% of 100,000 tonnes of e-waste generated annually is properly recycled.
Quadrent’s first digital inclusion project was completed in July 2022 with the supply of 250 ex-lease laptops to Aurora College and Te Wharekura O Arowhenua school through collaboration with Te Rourou One Aotearoa Foundation and Ngāi Tahu. While our current digital inclusion projects include:
- 150 laptops and bags were delivered to schools effected by Cyclone Gabrielle, in partnership with Recycle a Device and Tōnui Collab.
- 75 laptops were directly supplied to Tangaroa College, to be used by students from three classrooms. We are also piloting a further five laptops to go into the school library for more general use.
Additionally, we have developed a reporting portal for our customers that provides comprehensive sustainability reporting that includes the weight of e-waste produced and equivalent CO2 emissions data that is required for our corporate customers to report under GRI and TCFD reporting standards. This establishes a baseline for us to work closely with our customers for continuous improvement to reduce the level of their e-waste going into our environment over time.
